About
I am William J.P. Armstrong. I build websites and the software and infrastructure that sit behind them.

One person, the whole stack
I work end to end because the seams are where sites fail. A page is easy; a page that still loads a year later, on a server that patches itself, behind DNS that is correct, sending mail that is not marked as spam, is a different job. I do that whole job, which means when something goes wrong there is one person to ask and no finger-pointing.
What I actually do
- Build
- Rust for anything long-lived; static sites generated from typed content rather than a CMS.
- Run
- Linux servers I administer directly — Caddy, TLS, firewalls, ZFS storage, backups that are tested rather than assumed.
- Postfix and Dovecot with SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MTA-STS, so mail authenticates properly.
- Check
- Automated accessibility, link and performance audits that must pass before anything deploys.
How I like to work
Plainly. I would rather tell you a migration has a risk than discover it with you at the wrong moment, and I would rather show you a measured number than a confident adjective. If something I built is not right, I want to know early enough to fix it properly.
Available for work
Client sites, backend work, and the infrastructure most people would rather not touch.
